The Alternative Bagel!
November 5th, 2006 by hungry waif

Bagels are cool. I mean they look like donuts (or oversized cheerios), come in a variety of flavors, and you can eat em for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! But, they are usually calorie packed and some came rack up to as much as 400 calories! Although most have little to no fat, its usually the dense white flour that adds a lot of carbs to them. So thankfully, Western Bagel has churned out "The Alternative Bagel" or bascially, a lower calories, lower carb bagel. Now looking at the label, this bagel looks good: 110 calories per bagel and with a good source of fiber (made with whole wheat flour, not white). And, its tastes pretty good too! i thought it would be airy and kinda weird, but it tasted like a bagel. When i looked at some other "regular" bagels' lables, i realized Western Bagels little trick: their bagels are only 2oz whereas most other bagels are three, four, and even five oz! But most bagels seem too big to me anyways, so i am content. They come in a variety of flavors but my favorite in cinnamon spice!
Yay, a bagel review! Those look great. Bagels are one of my favorite foods, and I've tried to cut down on bagels since I'm trying to cut calories, but it's hard. So thanks for the bagel review! Where were you able to buy them? And were they in the fresh section or the frozen section? Thanks!
I bought them from their website online. You have to buy at least $30 worth though (including shipping), so hopefully you have a big freezer. I also tried country white, blueberry and sweet wheat as well as the cinnamon spice. My favorite is the sweet wheat since you can make sandwiches with it. They taste great!!
hmm i'm such a crazy loving bagel maniac, these sound awesome! i currently don't have a credit card so it would be great if you can mention where these are sold in stores, thanks a bunch!
xfudge3,I wish they were sold in stores, but so far I haven't seen any. Their website says that they are "coming soon" to stores, but they have said that for a while. If you live in CA, then you might be able to visit the few branches they have. Check it out at: www.westernbagel.com/locations.asp
I bought them once at a Super Walmart that was several cities away from where I live. They are not bad.. but they do get stale really quickly, are very expensive, and not really worth the trouble of ordering from the internet if not found in a store. I would just rather go for those mini bagels which are 100-120 cals each. They are okay. Or just have 1/2 a bagel-which is still less than the whole thing. lol
