For those that keep up with my side blog (http://thiswaifcooks.blogspot.com/) you know that its Yom Kippur and we're hosting a little Break-the-Fast Soiree at my house (for the record, ive only fasted one before, but ive actually attempted to do it this year so we'll see how that goes...). This meant we needed to stock up on all the par-tay essentials at costco, thus giving my the perfect oppertunity to stuff myself before the dreaded fast. Now, as many of you know, i am not one to like diet endorsed products, but when your preparing for a fast, you'll eat almost anything, especially when its free. So i tried the Atkins Peanut Butter Bar which weighs in at 60g per bar with 240 calories, 12 g fat (6 of which saturated), 10 g fiber, 19 g protein, and 1 g sugar. nutritionally, i am rather ambivalent. Its great that there is lots of protien and fiber, that will defineitly hold you over until your next meal, but 12g of fat with half of it saturated?! eh, sorry atkins, i know your all about scarfing down bacon and crisco, but i like to keep my saturated fats low. For having no added sugar, i must say i was suprisingly impressed. It was not especially sweet, mind you, but it tasted very peanut-butter-y and could pass for a reeses or someother peanut butter candy. Its got almost as much calories and fat as snickers, but defiently healther thanks to the fiber and protien. Well i must say, i am writing this while still on the Yom Kippur fast (dont worry, it ends in 5 hours, and yes, i am counting!), i am getting hungry just writing about it so i'll wrap this up. But overall, i guess if you miss yor reeses, this is an ok choice, but be wary it still candy, and i am guessing a real meal will satisfy you better.
