Kashi's Honey Toasted Heart to Heart

I think cereal is a great thing. I don’t do frozen dinners when I’m in a time crunch. No, when I’m in a time crunch, five minutes on high is an extra five minutes I would rather use eating and enjoying my food as opposed to getting it down as fast as possible. Plus, most frozen entrees are reminiscent of airplane food (although this concept is becoming extinct, most airlines don feel their passengers due to budget cuts). So this is where cereal comes in.

Kashi GoLean Hot Cereal!

I frequently read the eatlikeme blog on self magazine’s website.  In case you don’t know about it, it is written by a registered dietitian so she often gets many questions on her comments section.  I recently saw that someone was mentioning how they always hear how oatmeal is a healthy staple but that they simply don’t care much for.  You know, I sorta agree although I’ve seen people really deck their oatmeal with some truly unique flavors.

Kashi Go Lean Chocolate Peanut!

Call me a werido, but the Kashi commercials motivate me to workout. Its funny really, i was at the gym a while back and i saw a commerical for kashi (about how their company workers are active and happy people) and for some reason, it made me kinda happy.  They have a new one of this like 70 year old guy who runs marathons!

Kashi Vive Wellness Cereal!

I know theres been a slew of cereal reviews. agian, i am simply craving them and i see nothing wrong in that (especially when most i buy are rather nutritious!).  Guess what, this cereal, Kashi Vive in graham cracker vanilla, is geared to be a "wellness" cereal.  Kashi boasts "we created Kashi Vive™ with lots of fiber, probiotic bacteria and specially chosen ingredients to help you care for your digestive system".

Kashi Go Lean Crunch!

I appologize for the redundant cereal reviews, i promise i'll do other stuff not cereal related next time. But i had to post about Kashi Go Lean Crunch because they are giving it away on their site! MMMM....free food! but ya know, my soyjoy bars were free, and they tasted like clay, so i figured the company was desperate to get these gross things out there since their taste alone wouldn't do the trick. But no, Kashi people got the right idea, because one taste of this cereal, and yes, you actually would go out and buy it. Nutrtionally, its not terrible. A heavy 53 gram (1 cup) serving is 190 calories, 3 grams of fat (no saturated fat thank god), an impressive 9 grams of protien, and 8 grams of fiber. Pretty good, although the sugar content is a teeny bit high (13 grams) but its no where close to other conventional cereals out there. Plus, the protein and fiber content is so impressive, i am beginning to forgive the slightly high sugar. Anyhow, they taste just GREAT. its like their puffed kashi, only clustered and extra crunchy and sweet (dont worry, not too sweet). I could definetly eat this as a snack instead of popcorn or on top of yogurt or baked apples. Come to think of it, i really like the Kashi company, i haven't tried one of their cereals that didnt taste good. And when i heard they were giving out FREE cereal, i logged on right away and got my free box. Go get Go Lean Crunch!

Kashi's Strawberry Fields!

I dont know if the folks over at kashi named their cereal after the kick ass beatles's song, but if they did, they did so fittingly. Ok, at first, i thought this must be an organic take on Special K's red berries (which is actually my favorite of their cereals). Nutrtionally they are fairly similar, 1 cup is 120 calories, 9 gm of sugar, only 1 of fiber, and no fat. ok, so its not the best nutrtional breakfast, but it is organic and not to high calorically. But let me tell you, its world's better than special K (and about the same price!). its crunchier, and the chrunchiness is sweet with a hint of strawberrys, not merely special k flakes with some dehydrated strawberris thrown in for a garnish of some sorts. I'd eat this as a dessert because of its nutrtional emptiness and its overly (but in a good way) sweetened taste. maybe with some unsweetened greek yogurt or on baked fruit to make some sort of crumble. So you see, the song is fitting, whether intentional or not, cause the taste of this cereal is definetly kick ass.

Kashi 7 Grain Puffed Cereal!

Its amazing how big Kashi has come. I remember when they first started making cereals and such when i was about 14. They only had a few cereals to their name then, but now, they make everything from granola bars, hot cereals, and even frozen entrees! Well i am going to review one of their first products which probably among their simplest products but according to me, probably one of their best nutrtionally and taste wise! Their puffed cereal is not airy like puffed rice or puffed wheat, and is definetly more filling. It has a denser texture than most puffed cereals and an interesting but yummy flavor. Its only 70 calories per cup with 1 gram of fiber, 0.5 grams of fat, and 0 grams of sugar (woo hoo). If your craving a sweeter cereal, i suggest blending in some splenda packets and a sprikling of cinnamon. Another cool feature to this cereal is that it doesn't deflate in milk! even corn flakes get soggy quickly, but these puffs hold up their crunch nicely when submerged in milk (or soy milk). I hope all these new kashi products won't inflate the ego of this seemingly down to earth company, cause their basic stuff, like their puffed cereal, is awesome all on its own!
