Carb a Whey from Soft Serve Depot!
August 24th, 2007 by Al
You scream, I scream, we all scream for…hopefully you know the end. But there’s one thing we don’t scream for, and that’s for calories. It seemed that all was lost trying to find low calorie and tasty ice cream that was a little more filling. That’s when I was introduced to Carb a Whey. Low cal soft serve in like a zillion different flavors. Its only 6 calories per ounce, made with whey protein and has an amazing creamy, smooth texture (but has to be thawed out for just a little bit if you stock pile them in your freezer like I do.) After spending my time at Penguins Yogurt in LA trying their flavors and making special outings just to go there and get a cup of Carb a Whey to enjoy while walking around gossiping, I looked on Carb a Whey’s website and found out that through Soft Serve Depot I was actually able to order my own mix and flavors to make my own at home. A little while later I found out that Hungry Waif had ordered from there and told me we should get some more to try I called them up and was lucky enough to be able to procure some samples for free. So very exciting. We received an assortment of flavors including mint chocolate, chocolate peanut butter (our personal favorite), toffee and more. Soft Serve Depot sends the base, which is a powder in either neutral or chocolate, along with a plastic bottles of flavoring. Hungry Waif and I mixed up some different combos in her ice cream maker and had a blast doing it. Unlike at Penguins it takes a little longer for it to come out of the machine but it has the exact same smooth, creamy consistency and rich flavorful taste. Because flavors are always changing at Yogurt shops, by buying it we were able to keep the flavors we love on hand to make whenever we wanted them. It’s also a fun, relaxing project with the ultimate payout. Its kind of like a slot machine but without the coins…those probably wouldn’t taste as good as this stuff.
but isn't it really expensive
I'm all for ice cream but doesn't it cost a lot especially when shipping is added to the price?
Buy enough to make it worth
Buy enough to make it worth it and save it, you can even ask them to ship using USPS or some other carrier thats cheaper, i buy discount vitamins online all the time enough to last a few months and it saves me so much compared to going to some store like gnc
You can order it using the link right above the comment section
Depending on how much you want, it does not appear to be very expensive, especially when you compare it to getting it at the fo-yo shop.
gimme gimme
I. miss. frozen yogurt. so bad. There is NONE in san francisco. none I say! (fellow readers, if any of you live in the bay area and know where I can find some, please speak!)
I think I'm going to have to resort to making some of my own. I have an ice cream maker, only problem is....I have no freezer. I'm trying to Craigslist one, so until then, I'll just drool all over the many hungrywaif posts about frozen yogurt...
p.s. Hungrwaif - what did the carbawhey people reveal to you about the 'untruths' for the carbolite/wow cow nutritionals? they should publicize it, and beat down the competition!
hungry waif- see if you
hungry waif- see if you can look into these nutrition stats as well. honestly- i am never so skeptical, but the unbelievably low fro yo stats have become such a publiucized joke in the past few years, that i just have trouble respecting and trusting these companies. 6 cals an ounce sounds unlikely.
a few yrs ago, tasty d-lite & cremalita (2 big east coast chains) claimed similary low stats but tests proved teremendous inacuracies. aslo, for anyone that is counting- know that when you are being served soft serve, small, med, larges are usually 2-3 ounces heavier than they say. an old ny times story (and many others) publicized this:
"At CremaLita's Third Avenue branch, the small vanilla soft serve is advertised as having 60 calories in four fluid ounces. In fact, one small cup contained 153 calories. Tasti D-Lite advertises a 40-calorie, four-fluid-ounce product; testing of the smallest vanilla servings sold at various branches found as many as 224 calories."
thats's just one example. several small companies due the same unfortunately. and while i'm on the topic... in general, anyone that watches nutrition stats when eating should know that if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. and, for packaged foods or restuarants/ fast food that state facts, weight is can be 10-20% more. hope this is helpful and not just upsetting.
I know, believe me, when i
I know, believe me, when i found out about tasti d-lite, i was pretty bummed cause when i lived in New York I went to like twenty d-lite locations on a daily basis! haha, well i am not terribly mad at them cause its not like i balloned from eating so much of it, but i just think false labeling is unfair and dishonest. But BELEIVE me, these guys that invented this completely take this dishonesty seriously and really try to make a point that their product was properly measured by fda standards. Actually, i also believe it cause its definetly not as creamy as say cremalita or tasty d-lite, its a lot icier (cause its water based, not dairy based). This is one of the few products that is actually as good and is true. Even if the calculation, by some chance, is wrong it cant be by that much because i ve been eating (and LARGE quantities too) of this almost daily and it has not had any impact on my weight. That whole tasty d-lite expose ticked me off too, but i try not to get all worried about it because it IS a better alternative to permium full-fat ice cream so might as well enjoy it.
carbawhey
have any of you noticed the nutrition info on the website doesnt add up? for one 4 oz serving, the claim is that it has only 23 calories, however it also lists 8g of carbs/sugar and 3g of protein. both carb and protein contain 4 calories per gram, so by bare minimum a serving should have 44 calories. this really bothers me bc if they can misconstrue this information they could easily be lying on the label as well...
Shipping fixed
We've taken the time to fix the shipping, and now all orders over $99.00 are shipped free.

How much does a bag of the soft serve mix make? What type of machine do you use to make it in??
You use a soft serve
You use a soft serve machine, like the cuisinart one http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-ICE-45PK-Soft-Serve-Ice-Cream-Maker/dp/B...
