Diet Cherry Chocolate Dr Pepper!

I write this review from the teeny computer lab at the baking campus of my culinary school. Ironic because in the commercials for this drink, they make it seem as if this new drink is some sort of cake.  A weird thing, a cake flavored soda?  For those that  dont frequent my culinary school blog, we are beginning to make pies next week in class and tonight i am finishing up eclairs and cream puffs! Anyhow, a cake flavored soda is a weird accompanyment, but i am thristy.  First thing that strunk my as kinda funny was that the bubbles were pink but the drink itself was dark brown! kinda neat, it gave it some girliness, so not sure this will be big this guys.  Thanks god i got it still cold (although the ONE exception is warm diet dr pepper which i know, sounds gross, but i swear is kinda pleasnat every now and then).  It was strange at first, i need a few swigs to give me definite opinion on this. It was not "diet-y" as is aspartame overkill in after taste, it tasted like ordinary dr pepper at first, but an after taste of chocolate soda.  I review a long while bak Canfield's chocolate soda and it reminded me a lot of that.  This soda is ok, better than diet coke (i hate diet coke for the record), not sure if i prefer this over the regular diet dr pepper (oxymoronic, no?) but its an interesting effort on their part. Kudos for the commercial for making the drink seem like a german chocolate cake!  Now i am off to stuff my eclairs!

I'm glad you reviewed it...

I LOVE diet Dr. Pepper, but the sound of this flavor sounded repulsive. However, I do enjoy the cherry vanilla flavor so maybe I should give this one a sample just because. I would only do so if it was on sale in a 20 oz because all I've seen is the 2L

Yeah, I felt the same when I

Yeah, I felt the same when I saw the name of the drink... chocolate cake is not something I connect with fluids. Even so, I may be willing to give it a try. Have no fear, I prefer dr. pepper warm as well, it has a different taste I guess.

It's GOOD!

This stuff is great! My only qualm with it is that it doesn't really taste like cherries at all, but it I enjoy it nonetheless. It's too bad it's limited edition, since it's really yummy, but if enough people write to Dr. Pepper, maybe they'll keep it longer. It does remind me of Canfield's Diet Chocolate soda, which is one of my FAVORITE diet drinks of all time!

By the way, nutritious waif, I would hate to imagine your pantry and where you store your food--how are you not swimming in all sorts of food right now with all these products you're trying for us?

i love diet dr pepper and i

i love diet dr pepper and i like the cherry vanilla, but this was disgusting i think

I've been wanting to try

I've been wanting to try this out as well. I'll have my mum pick up a pack at the store today and give it a swig. I am a complete addict to diet coke, but seeing as it and black coffee are my only vices I try not to worry too much! You should also try Diet Pepsi Caramel Cream-one of my favs.

I generally love all things

I generally love all things Dr. Pepper but this flavor scares me a little. It sounds like it's got too much going on. I wanna try it though, I've just gotta find a place that sells it. There are so many coke products that they all don't fit in the drink cases anymore.

yay comments! i love hearing

yay comments! i love hearing these! ok so to adress a few...
yes, i agree this is a bit overwhelming sounding for a soda, but indeed it did lack the "cherryness" desite the pink tint. Definetly more chocolat-y but not terrible so for those who are freaked out, try it. Its only about a a buck 25 in most stores so its not like splurging on some fancy health food (not that this is health food by ANY means, but still). about my pantry, well yes, i do try many things, some i get sent for free from companies, some i try out at promotional events (and costco), and some i try because my friends or peers are eating it and i cant keep my hands off food, hee hee.

Free things from companies?

Hey NW--

How do you get sent free things from companies? Is it because you have them post on your website?  I am interested in getting samples too!

yes, some companies approach

yes, some companies approach me, sometimes i call in and tell them about the site if its a new thing i am interested in, there are also lost of ones you can get online like fiber one and kashi tend to do.

I have recently eliminated

I have recently eliminated drinking diet sodas and it feels great. I realize diet soda can ve VERY addictive, trust me i know, but if you can get away from it, and replace it with water, vanilla soy milk, or flavored water, you will love the differences. I have much less cravings and I sleep a lot better. If you have a costco nearby, try thier vitarain flavored waters. They taste just like vitamin waters but have 0 calories. You will become instantly addicted, and this time... ITS OK!

I really like carbonated

I really like carbonated water with lemon in it, are any other small amount of juice (I guess they are spritzers, right?) Anyway, it's a great exchange as well... though I still like my diet soda now and then.
