Soups

Progresso 0 point Vegtable and noodle Soup!

I am such a hypocrite, forgive me.  I talked in my last post about how i stray from buying diet endorsed products but here i am once again, review a diet endorsed item, yes, progresso teamed up with the most popular weight loss program in the country, weight watchers, and just released these new "0 point" canned soups.  I dont eat a lot of canned soups nowadays, and when i do, they are usually very simple cause i add in all sorts of goodies (like navy beans, smokey sausage, veggie meatballs, spices, bay leafs, etc).  I used to eat progresso chicken noodle as a kid.

Amy's No Chicken

Ahh chicken noodle soup, this one aint for the soul, its for the tummy, and in fact, it doesn't have real chicken in it so its vegetarian and crazy peta people friendly. Now, i am not big on canned soups, i like to make my own using a blend of boxed soups and a few of my own special ingredients and spices. I do remember have campbells a couple of times as a kid though when my baby sitter couldn't figure how to cook anything else for me. Anyhow, this soup tasted nothing like campbells, but it was ok. the broth was much thicker than traditional chicken noodle soups, it was more like a stew. The can said your not supposed to add water, but some water couldn't hurt. The veggies were kinda too mushy and the noodles too soggy. But the flavor of the broth was nice, and i give them props for the fake chicken which taste alright. Nutrtitionally its pretty sound as well, but a little on the higher sodium side. Each can has 2 servings (although seriously, 1/2 a can per person is pretty pathateic. i ate the whole can, now thats MY kind of serving), with each serving having 90 calories, 3 g of fat, 5 g protein, and 540 g of sodium. Dont think i'll be buying this again cause i make a way tastier version, but if you vegetarian, in a time crunch, or this just happens to be on sale, its in ok bet.
