Health Blogger Q and A: Miz Fit!

when i need a no nonsense kick in my fitness but, I can always rely on the useful video demos and advice offered at Miz Fits site http://mizfitonline.com/. In my eyes, shes a celeb in the blog world so I am flattered she agreed to do a Q and A with me. As you can tell from the interviews, she s pretty fit, kick ass chick. (and PS, visit her site thursday when I'll be featured for her "guest chef" spot!).

Hungry Waif: So tell me a little about Mizfit and why you decided
to start the website?

MizFit:Once upon a time I was in graduate school getting my masters degree in
education/counseling with visions of being a dean of students at a
small
private liberal arts college dancing in my head.

I graduated, moved to Chapel Hill North Carolina with a single job lead

(ahhh, youth.  Eggs? One basket? Fearless.) that never transpired.

Id taught aerobic before, loved weight training and decided that Id
become certified as a personal trainer while I job hunted.

I adore training.  Not only could I use my counseling degree but I
loved
helping people achieve their health goals as well.

A few years (and a lot of hard work later) I opened my own training
studio.

When I relocated in 2001 I sold my studio and decided not to open
another in the state where I now live.

My passion had always been writing (I was an English Literature major)
and I seized the opportunity to mesh my two passions and have been
freelance writing---mainly fitness---ever since.

I currently write for a large diet company's newsletter (no byline so
Im
not supposed to reveal *wink*) and have a fitness column in a Texas
magazine.

Long way of saying I felt that I had a wealth of knowledge I wasnt
using
on a daily basis which I wanted to, essentially, give away.
That's how MizFit was born.
I hope to create a community of people helping people on this oft bumpy

road to health and wellness.
My favorite thing is how the women really support each other and
encourage one another in the comments area.
and I have learned more than a few things there as well.

Next stop? A MizFits workout dvd

HW: In general, whats you food/diet philosphy? are you
vegetarian/omnivore/vegan/fruitarian (hee hee, I stole
that from the film Notting Hill, is that even real?)?

MF:(loved Nottinghill.  LOVE hugh grant.  about a boy? priceless.)

Id say Im a huge carnivore but, when I think about it, I really dont
eat
much red meat.  Im definitely of the fat-is-our-friend mindset but I
really do watch my processed white carb intake.

Id say it's a sacrifice---but the more I learn about how not good they
are for us it really isnt.

my latest motivation? all the studies about how (if youre predisposed)
they can exacerbate/trigger macular degeneration.

not hard to pass on the wonder bread then, huh?

HW: Whats your "go-to" healthy food item/product?

MF: Hmmmm....Im always on the run with my daughter so I have a few: beef
jerky, soy nuts/trail mix, an a gluten free high protein cereal I love
from Kays Naturals.
of course I interpreted "go-to" as on the run :)

HW: Whats the ideal thing to eat if you workout, but not
like a marathoner (cause lord knows, those powerbars
are probably not meant for those yoga classes..)?

MF: the ideal? It's so personal...your taste preferences I mean. Im really
a
bland eater so *MY* ideal healthy meal would be steamed veggies, shrimp

and a smattering of brown rice all spritzed with Braggs Liquid Aminos.

Id say any meal with foods as close to their original state as you can
stand.  good clean food as fuel.

HW: What are your food vices (mine are hot dogs and funnel
cakes, thank god its rare to see funnel cakes these
days..)?

MF: Im a saltsalt gurl.  popcorn.  pretzels (hello processed whitish!).
wait, Ben & Jerrys New York Super Chunk Fudge.  Can I add that in too?

HW: Whats the last thing you ate?
MF: a Met-Rx shake.  I ADORE THOSE.

HW: Ok, my final question is always for randomness sake,
so if you could choose another career, what would it
be?
MF: Since I think of myself as a nerdy writer Id have a fitness show on
television.

Thanks a million bicep curls to the ab-fab know-it-all, Miz Fit!
