nutritious junk

Hey everyone, I'm going out for Chinese today and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on the healthier choices? I'm thinking probably the vegetable dishes and steamed rice instead of fried....luckily I love Chinese veggies!

yes, but be wary, even "steamed" dishes are usually tossed in lots of grease, its a known trick of the trade because a) it makes the food look pretty and shiny, and b) hate to break it to ya, but fat tastes good, so often if a resuarant has so so quality produce, they mask the taste with grease and butter to add flavor. ask how a dish is prepared and ask for the suace on the side (this will also save you much = sodium overload as well). plain steamed spring rolls and dumplings are good too, but i am not sure thats "chinese". I am terrible at distinguishing the different asian cuisines, i always get confused with thai, korean, chinese, etc. i know they are very different but i just get them all confused. I do know that when i got out for thai, i like to get chicken satay with the peanut sauce on the side.

Here is an interesting link

If you're in to watching sodium, I suggest eating half the portion that you get at the restaurant.

This is from the Nutrition Action Letter. Healthy options of course include veggies! (Yay veggies!)

Thanks seagoer!heather

I always think its a good idea to only eat half at any restaurant. Portions are so huge these days and the calories in entrees are ridiculous! Thanks seagoer, for the link!
