Hummus Recipe!
July 11th, 2007 by hungry waif
as request, heres a very basic hummus recipe. you can make your variations by adding roasted red peppers, black beans, olives, more garilic, chilis, etc...and remember, a good quality tahini, i think, is key to a great hummus. go ahead and double dip (we all do it anyway!)
Drain chickpeas and set aside liquid from can. Combine remaining ingredients in blender or food processor. Add 1/4 cup of liquid from chickpeas. Blend for 3-5 minutes on low until thoroughly mixed and smooth.
Place in serving bowl, and create a shallow well in the center of the hummus.
Add a small amount (1-2 tablespoons) of olive oil in the well. Garnish with parsley (optional).

That did not take long at all. I am going to have to try this one out. I will report back once I build it then eat it.
Tahini?
Where do you find tahini? which is better, the chickpeas or the garbanzo?
I am very sorry but i dont
I am very sorry but i dont know the exact nutritional information because this is a homemade type recipe but check the lables on the ingredients and maybe try to figure it out that way (also, the nutrtional info may be different depending on your add ins like extra tahini, olive oil, peppers, etc..). Actaully, chickpeas and garbanzo beans are the same thing, either one will do, but be wary cause many canned varieties are packed with sodium.
I'm so excited to make this!
I'm so excited to make this! But...I don't know where to find tahini. Would it be in the section of the grocery store with ethnic foods? Or somewhere by the spices? I've never seen it.
Tahini
Since tahini is basically sesame butter (puree), it can usually be found by the peanut butter (and other nut butters) or in the "international aisle" where they sell Jewish food (like matzo meal and falafel mix).
cans versus bag o' beans
Isn't it better to boil up the garbanzo beans yourself, rather than using the canned version? It's cheaper, but I never have time...can you store garbanzo beans for a week?

Haha! We totally expect HW to have ALL the answers! So far she does, though!
o no, i love seeing new
o no, i love seeing new comments and questions! it makes me reassured that people actually check my site and that i am not just writing to nobody. Anyways....i am assuming its better to buy they dried and boil them yourself, but I personally never have done that. but it sounds like it would turn out better that way, but canned turns our fine for me.
