Jiggle, jiggle, jiggle. No, that’s not the sound of my thighs as I walk up the stairs; it’s the sound I imagine gel snacks make as they quiver their way into your mouth. Notice how I said gel snack. We’re not talking about any Bill Cosby endorsed products.
Ok, quick back-story: I want some fruity, jiggly snack cups to put in my tummy so I go to the store and look. Every single item I find has gelatin plastered on the back in the ingredients list. This would be fine if I ate meat. But what does a veggie girl do when she’s craving a cup of jiggle? I found Hunt’s Snack Pack gel snacks. On top of them being vegetarian they are also sugar free. I got the cherry, hoping it wouldn’t taste like the cough medicine of my childhood that most cherry-flavored foods had going for them. But snack pack’s gels actually reminded me more of real cherries. It does have a kick of artificial sweetener that makes the first couple bites a little odd. And there’s a slight tartness that may be from the sweeteners, but actually remind me of a partially unripe cherry. So your guess is as good as mine as for what they were going for. Nutritious they are not. They have 10 calories, no fat, 2g of carbs, no protein and a little calcium. I really like to grab one of these when I want a cool, sweeter snack, but that’s all I want, something to tickle my tongue. Not filling, not fruit, just something fun. They say the artificial sweeteners will hurt you, but I live in LA where the smog is probably doing just as good of a job on my body. And there are hardly any of the maltitol and sucralose that the gel is sweetened with. So, if you get a little tired of breathing regular air and want some cherry flavored air, then go for these Snack Packs, cause they’re really just a cherry flavored, jiggly cup of air. Not in weight mind you, but nutritionally, and calorie wise. But boy is jiggly fun.
