Kudos Granola Bars!

When I was younger I would go to camp every summer.  It was a Jewish overnight camp and had all the things you would expect of a camp, plastic covered mattresses, arts and farts, and very mediocre food (except on Shabbat).  I gotta give it to them, they really tried to feed us kids good, nutritious, fun food, but it always seemed to fall short.  I think this is why I would spend a lot of camp inhaling fruit and granola bars.  I ate so many granola bars at that point in my life that I grew an aversion to them and all their oatyness.  But now, 10 years later, I’m ready to try to incorporate these little buggers back into my life.  In this time granola bars have evolved by leaps and bounds.  If only humans could evolve as fast as granola bars, then maybe we’d be the smart aliens going to distant galaxies and probing people…. Instead of going with the grandfather, at least for me, of granola bars, the Quaker chewy; I went one step up to Kudos.  Why are they more advanced? Because they’ve got chocolate on the bottom and the top of them, and they have fun little chunks of food in them.  I got the variety pack, which included m & m’s, peanut butter, chocolate chip, and snickers.  Each bar has 100 calories, 3g of fat, 1g of fiber, 1g of protein, and 20% of daily calcium.  Each bar tasted like it should.  But to keep with the basics, the chocolate chip was pretty basic.  The granola was not mushy like other granola bars and added a little chewyness.  The chocolate flavor, all thought it was all over the bar, wasn’t overwhelming.  It was just sweet enough, but didn’t really help me when I was craving something to help me with a hardcore chocolate craving.  The size of these bars leaves a lot to be desired.  As in, I desire more.  Although they’re pretty dense, they’re only a 3-4 bite snack, and that’s if you’re trying to savor it.  I tried putting the bars into the freezer and that helped a lot.  They became hard and crunchy, without becoming a rock.  The taste was still there but it took longer to eat.  I put the whole pack in the freezer and have been enjoying them that way.  By far my favorite is the peanut butter.  The peanut butter taste reminds me a little of better n’ butter, which I really enjoy. The nutritionals aren’t great at all, but I figure I’ll just eat them to add a little extra calcium to my diet, which, as a woman I’m always in need of.  I really, really want to say something corny about this manufactures name, like kudos to Kudos, but wow, would that be sad.
