Rants of the month!

last month i talked about MickyD's new biscuit sammie and slamming Britney spears for being at not so hollywood weight.  This month, a few other things grinded my gears:

-If you've been to times square recently, have you paid a visit to that guitar/underwear wearing cowboy? aka the "naked cowboy". He's suing Mars (the company that makes M&M's) saying that they ripped him off in their adds (btw, I love their adds with people as M&M's! I'd personally be honored to be an M&M!).  But ny mag did a little piece about him and i must say, i think this guy is a bit image obsessed and a bit eating disordered. Of course he's a man, so no one makes a big deal of it, but this is what he mentioned in the article, "My goal, which is already achieved, is to have the very bottom of my back look dimply if I’m leaning back and squeezing my butt. I’ve done lunges for years and years, and now it’s a hard-as-rock, striated ass. Ten years ago, I had literally no ass. If I got heavier I had a big, huge bubble butt. I squeeze 1,000 butts a day — they’re all flat. Even with a girl that looks good — if I squeeze and it’s complete goo, that’s not going to look good". He goes on to mention he eats basically veggies a chicken all day and "avoids food after 8pm". then he mentions "My girlfriend and I sit down at 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. and religiously put on on-demand and eat Baked Lays potato chips and a protein bar. I basically put off my carbs all day to eat half a bag of Baked Lays with her — it’s zero fat and it’s essentially nothing but a plain baked potato. And a protein bar is essentially eating a chicken breast. It’s kind of like a treat.".  I am not a nutritionist, but some how, I just dont think you can put a chicken breast next to a protein bar and call the equal. I dont know he just seems very superficial to me and his attitude towards food is getting on my nerves. read the full article and you may understand why  http://nymag.com/daily/food/2008/06/the_naked_cowboy_treats_himsel.html.  Maybe i am being too judgmental....

- Food costs are going up (along with gas) thanks to our economy taking a bit of a nose dive.  But have you realized how much food we actually waste! a uk analysis discovered that brits throw out 4.4 million perfectly good apples daily!  And with costco selling us HUGE packs of food, it leaves us only a little time before the perishables go bad.  Here's what i recommend: buy the bagged, sometimes...i know it might seem cheaper to buy a whole broccoli crown for your stir fry because pound per pound, its cheaper than the precut stuff. But if you dont like the stems (which are perfectly fine to eat and are delicious, by the way), you'll end up wasting money in the long run. so if theres an item which you know you only need a part of and throw the rest away, try to find only THAT part.  If costco is a hard habit to break, ask friends, neighbors, family members or even co-workers if you could split the costco bill and simply buy 6 pack of hearts of romaine  (which is about 2.89) youll defetly save moolah if you only need one (a 3 pack one from safeway is 2.99!). And dont fret too much about organic.  organic is great but sometimes its a bit pointless with fruit with think skins (think bananas, oranges, etc).  splurge of fruit you love (it'll encourage you to eat it too!) and save of the thicker skin prodcuce.

-Oprah's preaching of her "quantum wellness" diet. The Queen of the US (because lets face it, she probably has more impact than the president), has been on this pr kick for this "quantum wellness" cleanse.  apparently, she ate everything that came from her garden (with the exception of olive oil) and now that its over, feels "awakened" and more sensative to the world's food shortages. she might feel healthy (i dont know, if ask me i'd feel hungry after a strict diet like that).  I am not going to poo poo her because i think she means well, using the global food shortage as a way to promote a diet book? hmm? sketchyhttp://www2.oprah.com/foodhome/food/cleanse/blog/blog_15.jhtml
