Sea Triangle Kelp Noodles!
February 19th, 2007 by hungry waif
I know a whole movement sprouted when shiritaki came on the scene and a pasta/noodle alternative for the weight watching and low carbers became available. But in some health food specialty markets you may also spot Kelp Noodles. I found these kelp noodles made by Sea Triangle at my local whole foods right next beside my trusty shiritaki! Anyhow, this really tickled my appetite and curiosity cause it seem like a nutrtional dream. a four oz serving (with a total of 3 servings per package), has a whopping 6 calories (which are probablly burned while attempting to find a good knife to open the tightly sealed package), 1 gram of fiber, 1gm of carbohydrate, sadly, no protein, but actually some calcium (15% of your daily value!). I really wanted these to be yummy, i really really really did, but they were so bland and odd on my toungue. so i added some flavor with soy soy sauce and hot mustard (what i like to mix my shiritaki noodles with). Although better (not as bland), i must say their texture was very strange and not a good kind of strange. Here the best way i can describe them: you know the glue used in a hot glue gun and it becomes kinda stringy....thats kind of what its like. I am not totally giving up on this product though, i was turned off by shritaki too before i mastered making them properly. their site offeres some nice recipes too, so these noodles still have hope. a few questionswhats the point of eating noodles with 6 calories? its a waste of time right? do you really like eating that much that you are eating for the sake of eating and not even getting any nutrition for it?Why is it you cant eat a normal serving of whole wheat noodles? I wonder this about hungry girl too. A half cup serving of whole wheat noodles has about 90-100 calories. Is it just that you want to be able to eat a larger volume of food even tho it tastes like ass? Is it lack of self control? I dont get it, i think a half cup of noodles is filling but whatever.
Most vegetable really don't
Most vegetable really don't have a ton of calories do you avoid eating them because of that? Not a question of wanting to over consume food most people are not able to effectively digest wheat and most other grains in general. There is a lot of inflammation/obesity in the US because of people over consuming grains without understanding the damage that they are doing to their digestive and intestinal tracks. It's not truly devoid of nutrients either, 15% of your rda of calcium in a tiny little 6 calories is nothing to sneeze at.
Personally I'll take vegetable over grains any day of the week. I'm planning on using these for a Paleo Chicken Alfredo, yummy!
