Tasty Eats Teriyaki Soy Jerky!

Al's picture

I’m back from Boston where, again, I found some tasty treats from my travels.  Try saying that 5 times fast.  But today I’m actually gonna review something that kept my stomach from growling while I was on the plane.  Because airlines no longer feed you anything except if you pay a zillion dollars or if it’s over a five-hour flight, in which case I was given a granola bar.  So I decided to pack smart for this flight and instead of finding carby, easy to pack foods I looked for protein.  I usually look for foods that I can eat either on the flight over or back, so obviously can’t go bad in the time frame that I’m out of town.  As I was wondering aimlessly around Whole Foods I came across the jerky section.  It only took my brain a couple seconds to process the fact that I should now look for some soy jerky.  Ah ha! There it was.  Tasty Eats soy jerky flavored with teriyaki.  On to the plane I went and it didn’t even matter that I had forgotten my whole toiletry kit, I had my soy jerky.  Each package comes with 3 servings with 40 calories, less than 1g of fat, 230mg of sodium, 1g of fiber and 5g of protein each.  The texture feels like how I imagine regular jerky would feel.  It’s chewy and but after a few mashes with your teeth falls apart easily.  The taste is what threw me for a loop, which is definitely not a good idea on a plane.  The first bite I didn’t really care for it.  It had a very strong taste but didn’t really remind me in any way of teriyaki.  It had a little spice to it and I could definitely taste the soy sauce and black pepper that were in the ingredients list.  After going back and forth with how I felt about it and in the mean time and consuming ½ the package in the process I decided that it was good in small quantity, a bite here, a bite there. But just take a big marker and cross off the “teriyaki” on the front of the package.  In my efforts to find a jerky that I could munch on happily with out confusion over my feelings for it, I found Tofurky Jerky which I would defiantly recommend over Tasty Eats jerky, at least the so-called teriyaki flavor.  I’m gonna give it a second, third and maybe forth chance by trying the other flavors they have out there.

Try the Turtle Island's

Try the Turtle Island's Tofurky Jurky. I think it is awesome and since it's made by the same folks who make Tofurky, it's gotta be good, right? :)
