TJ's 100 Calorie Milk Chocolate Bars!
March 19th, 2008 by hungry waif
ok, i know this is a review for the chocolate bars, but i have a quiz on, what else, chocolate in about 20 minutes (i am writing this in my culinary school's library, yes, its basically like the largest collection of food/cook books i've ever seen!). We learn all about chocolate last week in my class and about the different components. Basically, chocolate, like maybe that semi-sweet by the pound chocolate TJ sells, is made out of cocoa butter, cocoa liquer, lechitin, and sugar. MILK chocolate is all of that plus milk solids (the percentages of each ingredient differ too). And white chocolate isn't really chocolate at all, its just the cocoa butter, sugar, and lechitin. Anyhows, part of our quiz is tasting different kinds of chocolate (with different cocoa percentages) and trying to indentify them. so you might think why on earth i'd get TJ's new bars??? well, I scored a free one! yep they gave me a free sample )a piece not the whole bar, but i inspected the size of them. I generally have grown to resent the 100 calorie packs. they are extra wrapper (not so eco-friendly ), more expensive, and they make people who seriously want to eat healthier or loose weight think they are eating healthy foods. The point is, if you look at the ingredients of these packs, they are the same processed ingredients in the orignial version, only made thinner or smaller to accomidate the 100 calorie limit. Anyways, i am actually FOR the TJ bars. the chocolate (and this is coming from a chocolate snob) is decent quality and although not super healthy ingredients, its all stuff i know, nothing to chemically or bizarre. I do like the portion control, because we still buy those HUGE pounders TJ sells and three of those squares is like 220 calories (and i can devour about 11 sqaures if i was blindfolded). Anyways, i am going to be late to my exam so until then, these 100 calorie bars are ok in my book (or mouth, that is).
I went to Trader Joe's today
I went to Trader Joe's today and am so very upset they are not around me. You should do a review on the Pomegranate diet Hansen's soda I picked up as it is AMAZING. Along with their flavored greek fat free yogurts, which are also awesome.
Btw, what are some great LA restaurants I can try out?
Yeah, I have yet to find
Yeah, I have yet to find them either and i've been looking since hungry girl brought them up. What isle are they in???

they actually were on the "new arrivals" shelf but ask around, each traders i know places item differently, one of their flaws.
azelma, your in la?? i must take you out to lunch! as far as good restaurants, Osteria Mozza is fantastic (Its mario batali's new la eatery) and I love the best mexican food is definetly tito's taco (albeit, not very healthy, but delicious!).
Places to Eat in L.A.
azelma, there's a little town called Montrose, right next to Glendale, that has a couple of really good places right next door to each other. One is called "The Black Cow" and the other is "Zeke's" (barbecue). It might be a little out of the way, but it's definitely worth it.
There's also a coffee place called Swork (one in Montrose and another in Eagle Rock, not too far away). And in Sliverlake, there's a place called "The Coffee Table."
Have fun!!!
Zeke's is great! i ve only
Zeke's is great! i ve only been once (glendale is really on the other side of town from me) but its really delicious. silverlake is very boho and trendy, lots of new little cafes pop up there every week and worth checking out. I also love a new one called "Luna Park" where they have lots of fondue and smores you make at the table!

Sweet! Thanks for all the great suggestions! Have either of you been to Native Foods and is that any good? Anything near Huntingbeach that you know of? I do know Montrose is a pretty off-the-path for me.
