Top Three Supermarket Reviews!

hungry waif's picture

Many Blogs posted their favorite what nots of 2006 in the spirit of the new year. I decided to briefly introduce to you my personal favorite supermarkets. ok here they are

3) Trader Joe's: this funky, sailor themed supermarket is a foodie's dream. New products pop up weekly and they offer creative foods, ingredients, and avant garde items. Not to mention, their prices are great which defeats the myth that health food is expensive. I love the "crew" (as in a crew on ship) members too. They always are so nice and let you know their honest opinions about their favorite items. They arent supermarket giant robots that you see in many conventional supermarkets, these people truly have a pulse, and an upbeat one. So TJ's is so great, why isnt number 3 you ask? well, they do offer cool things but you cant always find them! i often go and find i cant find what i got their last week. They sometimes dont restock as often but they also like to discontinue really good items But nonetheless, TJ's has a special place in my heart.

2) Whole Foods: Vegan, Vegetarian, Kosher, carnivore, chocoholic, gluten intolerant? Whole Foods accomidates the palates of even the most particular eaters. They offer an endless selection of organic foods and top quality ingredients. Truly, their produce is always fresh and tastes amazing. even the simple things, like tomatos, taste amazing from whole foods. Their meat and seafood department is also extensive and extremly good quality. And their cheeses and bakery sections are like a museum! It would be number one, but you do have to pay a pretty penny for a lot of their items. It isnt terrible on your wallet, but its no wonder many stars are spotted shopping there.

3) Fairway Market: This New York market is more like an landmark. This market truly has personality shining through that really gives you that new york vibe. And this market has EVERYTHING! imported biscuits, olives, cheeses, chocolates, coffees, etc. A gourmet, a foodie's, and just a plain hungry person's mecca. Stacks of fruit ten feet high entice you as they encompass the circumference of the market, and the smells of the bakery lure you inside. The'r selection of ready made food is always delicious their prices are fair (obviously, the imported stuff can be pricey). I lived a few months in New York City, but i wish they had one in la, but i guess thats what makes it so special and a reason to go back and visit!

ever been to Wegman's? That is my favorite grocery store chain.

there is no wegmans in LA either... I LOVE fairway... its the best. i get all my best groceries from there. one note- produce can be expensive but typically cheaper than bodegas and of better quality.

We dont' have any of those grocery stores. Oh well eh?

Trader Joe's is fabulous...however, suprisingly, I've found alot of the lower calorie, and healthy stuff you've posted in places like Safeway, Winco, Bel Air, and Super Walmart. Walmart and Winco are much cheaper than T.J.'s...It's all about your budget, and of course just shopping around. You may just find great buys that are low cal in your average store!

I think #1 should be WHOLE FOODS and #2 should be WILD OATS & #3 TRADER JOES....I do not even know what the other store is, I wish that it were in colorado, wyoming.... sadly nope, so I cannot experience the "amazingness" haha!
