Torani Sugar-Free Syrups!

hungry waif's picture

Experimentations are fun. Scientific ones, not so much (sorry, but memories of high school chemistry haunt me...) but i've always done them in terms of food and cooking. One of my favorite tools for food experimentations are Torani's sugar free syrups. You can mix and match and creat all sorts of beverages.  For example, mixing diet coke with strawberry torani actually makes a pretty yummy soda (because under normal circumstances, i loath diet coke). Whats great about these syrups is that they really dont have an artifical after taste (but yes, these arent that nutritious as i am sure they chock full of chemicals, but i'll just try to use these in moderation).  Sure, you can get creative and take advantage of the LOADS of different flavors they offer and make your own unique drink, but didja ya know they aren't half bad when incorporated into real food? take for example making a coconut type dish like coconut shrimp of coconut rice. You can forgo the high fat (and by the way, coconut fat is actually not the best kind either) by adding the coconut syrup which adds that coconut flavor.  You can even use the lemon or lime to marinate your seafood/meat/tofu for a slightly sweet marinade. They are also a great addition to teas!  I've seen them really expensive but i found them at Smart and Final for 2.99 for a HUGE bottle.  Their website feature HUNDREDS of ideas for these so take advantage! ahh yes, experimentation with no tests or quizzes involved is delightful indeed, and in my case, tasty.

Off topic, but have you

Off topic, but have you thought about reviewing any of the Breakstone's live active cottage cheese and cheese? iateapie did a review and loved it, so I wanted to hear what you thought. I love their site, but for some reason I trust your reviews better.....

Hey! Mine's little of topic

Hey! Mine's little of topic too, but you mentioned back in jUne that you would write about the stuff your nutritionist teaches you and about the meals. I' would still be interested to know this

Ahhh! I just love this site!

loseit: ill be more than happy to post some info i pick up. I offered her to write but she does not want to get a bunch of new clients now so she asked me to keep her name anonymous, but i'll maybe do a little interview with her and about what SHE eats and her advice.

That would be awesome!

That would be awesome!

Wow, I had never thought of

Wow, I had never thought of asking what she eats in a day and all of that. Great idea for the next appointment!

syrups

great idea Waif! I have used the sugarfree syrups for coffees, but never thought of mixing it with diet coke before! Here's a Q for ya: I know you mentioned in a previous post about making frozen yogurt at home - do you think these syrups would work as flavorings? Or do you need "official" fro-yo flavorings that are concentrated?

Mad love for the Torani

Mad love for the Torani syrups! They're virtually zero carb, too. Great idea about the marinades. Never thought of that! They're wonderful for baking muffins without sugar or carbs from filler (hello maltodextrin?).

As for coconut fat, that's gotten a bad rap from the health establishment as well. Apparently the medium chain triglycerides are actually good for you! It's supposed to aid in weight loss, too.
