Tostitos Baked Scoops!
March 17th, 2008 by hungry waif
I am not a big potato chip person. Never was really. When it comes to those crunch, salty snancks, i gravitate towards harder things like pretzles and tortilla chips. Hmm, maybe i have a preference to more sturdy snacks? I dont care much for rice cakes either, i must have some "strong" snack bias. anyhow, most tortilla chips, as we nutritious junkies know, are indeed fried and not the healthiest option. Often times totally cancels out the health benefits of the stuff we actually scoop like the lycopene rich salsa or good fat guacamole (lets leave the queso out of this "healthy dip" shall we...especially if you use the canned one, i had a roomate who told me he justifies cheeze-wiz as a health food because of the calcium...um...ok, yea big eye roll moment). Anyhow, tostitos makes these scoops made for easy dipping. I like that idea they are also great for chili and little mini tostada appetizers! They actually refomulated from the ones they've made in the past. If you look in the past they DID NOT ontain oil on the chips and now they do. here are some of the changes: Calories: Now 120. Formerly 110. Total fat: 3g. Formerly 1g. Saturated fat: .5g. Formerly 0. You have to believe that's the oil talking. Good news is that trans fat is still at 0, cholesterol still at 0. Carbs went down from to 22g from 24g. Sodium went down to 150mg to 200mg. so not terrible for chips at all. anyhow, this was delicious. Made me crave chili because i remember back in high school where on days i didn't have timw to cook, i popped open a can of turkey chili with some good ol tortilla chips instead of a spoon (hey, i figured less dishes to wash). You might notice a lot of savory type reviews this week beacause i seriously am sick of sugar as i need to contantly taste my desserts for my class. not to worry though, next term i start only cold food (salads, sandwiches, sushi, etc), i am sure then i will get sick of chips so its good i my fill of these "scoops" now.
question
how much is a serving size? (like how many chips?)
an oz or about 13-11 chips
an oz or about 13-11 chips (depending on size)
Wait, why did they
Wait, why did they reformulate? Makes little sense to me.
I have no clue, i only test
I have no clue, i only test the food, the processing is beyond me. maybe this version is healthier??
