Turtle Island's Tofurky!
October 31st, 2006 by hungry waif

Love the name! and in spirit of Thanksgiving being not to far away and with some requests for more vegetarian lunch meat reviews, i though i'd tackle Turtle Island's Tofurky. Being a meat eater, i am a little picky about vegetarian meat-fakes. Tofurky definetly does not look like turkey. I bought the hickory smoked flavor and it was kinda beige greenish, kinda scarry looking actually. But it smelled actually pretty yummy so i wasnt scared to devour it. I had it in a wrap with some lettuce, mustard, and plain eggwhites. It wasn't EXACTLY like turkey, but it wasnt bad tasting, and it had a decent amount of protien (13 grams for three slices, thats actually more than real turkey which has about 9 grams for five thin slices (brands may vary). There are 100 calories for three slices, but the slices are pretty thick and big. They come in cool flavors like Italian deli style, cranberry n' stuffing (i wanna try that one!), and peppered turkey. If your a meat eater, i might stick to lean lunch meats if your craving meat. But this is a great protien option for vegetarians and a great alternative filler for meat eaters.
Peppered and Cranberry and Stuffing are my favorites! They're definitely worth trying.
Thanks a lot for the review! Good to know. I'll look for it in my grocery store.
Turtle Island makes a bunch of really great stuff. If you liked the Tofurky, you should try the Tofurky Jurky. Its like beef jerky, but totally vegan! It is seriously soooooo yummy and really healthy too. Even my carniverous friends devour it whenever I bring some to work. :-)
OMG, you have to try the Tofurkey Jurky.
