Weetabix Flakes and Fiber!
April 19th, 2007 by hungry waif
Weetabix is the British version of shredded wheat. Simply wholesome wheat with no added sugars but still nice and crunch. Well, like shredded wheat, they've expanded to other cereal versions so i thought i'd try out their Flakes and Fiber. the website describes this cereal, "Crunchy organic whole grain flakes and bran strands add 11 grams of fiber to a jolly good morning." Wow, 11 grams, impressive and its organic. Each 1 1/4 cup serving size has 170 calories with 10 grams of sugar, 1.5 grams of fat and it even boasts some vitamins and mineals. The cereal itself reminds my of the All Bran Complete flakes mixed with those infamous all bran twigs. Generally i did like it. It tasts hearty with slight hint of sweet, but not like frosted flakes sweet or anything like that. I love the crunchyness too which would make this a nice topping for yogurt or something in need of a crunch (maybe even for breaded chicken?). See, British imports dont have to be fried up pub food.

yay!!! I'm glad you took my advice (since I left a long comment on your Special K Yogurt Delight cereal review, suggesting that you try Weetabix crispy flakes n' fiber) and tried the cereal!!! I eat this cereal practically everyday, and I never get tired of it. Glad to hear that you liked it too :)
thank you soo much, this is a very helpful review. I'm always looking for a better fibery cereal (fiber one can get kinda...blah) and this sounds great. I've never seen it though - I'm also in LA, what stores have you found it in?
Caitlin - I realize that your comment is directed towards Hungry Waif, but I am always able to find Weetabix cereal at Whole Foods.
veggiegirl, i have seen them at whole foods but i also saw them at select Vons and Ralphs but in the organic foods section
Thank you so much Hungry Waif and Veggiegirl! I'm off to Whole Foods to find me some :)
Hi, I am new here but I am glad to see there are others out there who are continuously looking for "right" foods and heavy fiber! :) My parents lived in Britain for 15 years so I grew up on Weetabix... I love it (all versions)! You can add a little splenda for some added sweetness. For another alternative (if you are a grain fan like me) try Hodgson Mills multigrain cereal (it is a multigrain warm cereal, very simply made like oatmeal, that also includes flax seed!) Taste with a little bit of splenda is fabulous (gives Weetabix a definite run for its money!) Both can be found at Super Stop and Shop!!fyi, recipe on Hodgson Mill box for muffins is great. I altered it by also adding banana and cranberries and using whole wheat flour instead of white! My hubby even loves grabbing these running out the door in the a.m. (use mini muffin cups to make the perfect size for a snack on the go- can also add protein powder in the mix... for balance!)MIMI
