Wellshire Farms Peppered Turkey Bacon

hungry waif's picture

I know the picture isnt Wellshire Farms' peppered turkey bacon, but its the only photo that wasnt super teeny that i could find. Turkey bacon is probablt more popular than real bacon these days because of people's health concerns, kosher keeping, or if your like me and just dont really crave greasy meat all that much. I usually buy the Jenni-O turkey bacon (as you can tell by my recently posted grocery list) but i saw this peppered one at whole foods and thought it would be a nice change. Each big thick slice is a mere 20 calories with no sugars and 3 g of protien. There were no specific heating instructions on the package, so i prepared it the very un-gourmet way i prepare my other turkey bacon, via microwave. i covered it with a paper towel and put it on high for 25 seconds and boy was my dog happy (the aroma was divine!). The taste was pretty great too. not likey turkey but more like peppered chicken or pork. I tried it in a wrap and with my eggs the next moring, but this would be great on tblt (turkey bacon, lettuce, and tomato), in a fritatta, or even on a pizza. The one gripe is the price, 6.99. my jenni-o is usually 2.99 (sometime on sale for cheaper), then again this is all natural and sold at whole foods so i was expecting this to be a little fancy shmancy. Well, if you can afford it, the taste is well worth it. and think about it, your saving babes and wilburs by forgoing real bacon.
