There are two things in my life that I love (okay there’s more but they’re not pertinent to this post so just forget about them) I love Whole Foods and Pad Thai. Whole Foods, because they have amazing food and with the added bonus of being healthy and making me feel good about what I’m eating. Pad Thai because I love the flavor, the texture and it’s really the only way I’ll eat peanuts. Put the two together and you’d think I’d be in heaven. That’s what I found when I got Pad Thai with Tofu from Whole Kitchen. It was a pretty big sized box and the picture on the front looked goooodddd. Well, it sat in my freezer for a little bit, then one day I decided to try it. It was time for the unveiling…dum dum dum. I put it in the oven, thinking that maybe this option would make it even tastier than in the microwave. 30 minutes later, a little long but I’m okay with that, I pulled out a piping hot dish of, I have NO idea. Right away the smell was off. It didn’t smell anything like different pad Thai’s that I had, had all over the country. I decided to let that go, but wow, the texture. The sauce came out of the oven soupy and after a couple minutes of stirring it turned into this slightly chunky looking gel. A small bite confirmed what my eyes had seen. Also, the taste was off, I don’t know how to describe it, and the noodles were chewy in a very unappetizing way. The tofu was nice and firm and there were large chunks of pepper floating around. But that didn’t keep me from throwing most of it in the trash. The nutrition is not bad at all for the size, 340 calories, 14g of fat, 3g of fiber, 9g of protein and 490mg of sodium. It’s a good amount of food for the calories. But it just doesn’t hold up to its label. It’s also vegan, has no artificial flavors or colors. Before this I thought Whole Foods could do no wrong, but now the wool has been pulled from my eyes. It’s sort of like finding out that the guy you called dad your whole life isn’t really your dad. That makes me sad.
