Worst Diet Foods Awards!

hungry waif's picture

ok, i really dont like bying anything with the word "diet" on it. It just screams, "i think i am fat" which is totally not the case (for me, that is). I dont mind light or (fill in the blank)-free products, but diet, ehh i am a little skeptical. Anyhow, some diet foods are ok, others are worthy of some award, not for praise but for the recognition that it just plain sucks and waste of money (or calories). here they are:

1) Special K protein water: ok special K whats the deal? i totally rather have a steak than imbibe you protein infused pink tinted and off tasting drink you dare call water!

2) Sorbee Sugar Free Chocolate Bar: I loe chocolate and yes, it can be very calorically dense, but by no means should one have to eat this piece of brick! its not that much lower in calories, tastes like a brown, artifically infused solid. Bleh....just eat the real thing, but get one with a high cocoa content.

3) Fifty 50 sugar free chocolate chip cookies: i tried this when the fifty company had a booth handing out samples at my school's health fair. The people are the booth were all like, "o try these, they are sugar free and sweetened with fructose, etc...." I took a bite, smiled politely and spit it out in my hand after turning away. Tanya at iatepie also didnt find these that great either. and at 170 calories four 4 tiny cookies, its hardly a calorie bargain.

4) 100 caloire Balance Bars: these are bars a perfect balance of dense goo and icky-ness. its irtually taste-less with a rock solid consistency and might i add TEENY! for 100 calories, this is a horrible bargain, i could finish it in two not so big bites.

I completely agree with you and all your picks for the worst diet foods. "Diet" foods are a gimick, and their ingredients lists read like a chemist's lab book! ick!

i actually like the 100-calorie pria bars - the chocolate peanut crunch are to die for... yea, it may not fill you up for very long but if you're craving something sweet - it does the trick... :o)

i like the balance bars. the peanut butter and the vanilla crisp tastes so yummy. they taste like candy bars and at 100 calories a piece, its not that bad.

I love the vanilla/white choc 100 cal balance bars! very sweet, but yum....but you're right-- small and I have a hard time just eating one. :P

do u go to ucla?? i miss it sooo much, i graduated fall 04 and moved to cold, snowy NY for grad school.....

pb balance bar curbs my craving for pb butter yumm =)

You should start reading your posts over before you post them. You would hopefully have less spelling mistakes that way.

the 100 calorie south beach snack bars r gross too

Hi Hungry Waif, I just recently found your blog, and I love it. So many good tips and reviews! I'm curious, on top of your healthy eating, do you exercise? Whats your height to weight ratio? It sounds like you are not trying to lose weight, just maintain your current, healthy, lifestyle...yes?Hope I'm not prying too much - you just seemed to have figured out what many of the rest of us are trying to do!

anonymous, well incase your wondering, i am very tiny, i weight about 95 lbs and am about 5'2. I am not trying to loose weight at all, i am afraid if i do i might disappear. I do exercise regularly, i love running, yoga, and pilates. I think exercise is essential for your physical and mental health and i know i could never give it up. But i dont resort to junk foods, i have been heavier (about 25 lbs heavier) so i know the trial and tribulations that come with wanting to loose weight and "diet". but the be honest, the best thing to do if you DO want to loose some unwanted lbs is to simply eat healthier and get moving. diet is a temporary thing, so make healthy changes you can adhere to for the rest of your life (i.e., dont swear of bread and chocolate)
